Bathroom Plumber in Taigum
Behind every shower, basin and bath sits the pipework a bathroom plumber in Taigum deals with daily, along with the mixers and the supply and waste lines hidden in the walls. Most bathrooms here went in during the suburb's big building decades, so the mixers and waste fittings have had a long working life. We work across Taigum and the suburbs around it, and we're QBCC licensed, with every job done by a licensed plumber.

Bathroom plumbing has three parts, and each one fails differently:
Water supply
the hot and cold lines serving each fixture.
Waste
the drains carrying spent water from every one of them to the sewer.
Fixtures and tapware
the showers, basins, baths and mixers themselves.
The townhouse side of the suburb adds its own pattern. Complexes were fitted out to a single spec, so the cartridge mixers and flexible hoses in unit after unit hit the same birthday and tend to fail in a run.

What a Bathroom Plumber Looks After
The job covers three things: the water arriving, the water leaving, and the fittings in between.
Supply
Hot and cold water has to arrive at the right pressure at every outlet. A weak shower often traces back to the supply side rather than the shower itself, and our hot water plumbing page covers the system feeding the hot line.
Waste
Each fixture drains through its own trap and waste pipe, so a basin that empties slowly, or a surging gully trap in a summer storm, is a waste-side problem. Overland flow after heavy rain moves through low-lying yards faster than small-lot drains can clear, so floor wastes cop the worst of a downpour.
Fixtures and tapware
Showers, basins, baths and the mixers on them wear out on their own schedule. For the detail on taps and cisterns, our tap and toilet plumbing page carries the full breakdown.
The pages under this one take each fixture in turn:
- Shower repairs for temperature swings, weak flow and mixer faults.
- Leaking shower repairs for water escaping the recess and showing up on walls or floors.
- Dripping shower heads for the most common shower complaint of all.
- Bathroom renovation plumbing for full strip-outs and refits.

Which Bathroom Jobs Need a Licensed Plumber
Yes, regulated bathroom plumbing needs a licensed plumber, and the list of jobs that doesn't is short. Queensland reserves plumbing and drainage work for licensed tradespeople because it protects the house and the health and legal rights of the owner.
The unregulated list covers only two bathroom jobs:
- Replacing a shower head.
- Renewing a tap's washer or its jumper valve.
Any capable householder can do those two. A full tap replacement, by contrast, is licensed work in its own right, and the QBCC's own guide names it as a job beyond the homeowner list.
One catch trips people up: even unregulated work has to meet the minimum standard set out in the legislation and codes. A washer fitted badly can flood a bathroom overnight, licence or no licence.

Marks and Limits for Bathroom Fittings
Every tap or shower sold for a bathroom needs two marks: WaterMark certification, plus registration under Water Efficiency Labelling and Standards (WELS).
WaterMark
certifies the product against the Plumbing Code of Australia as safe and fit for its job. Without it, a licensed plumber can't install the fitting legally.
WELS
registers the fitting for water efficiency. The label prints its stars and its water use, so you can compare products before you buy.
Two limits apply to the room itself:
3 stars minimum
Showerheads and tapware in new dwellings need 3 stars under WELS. A renovation is exempt from that minimum.
50°C at the hot taps
A temperature control device holds the hot supply at no more than 50°C where it heads for the taps in a home. Business Queensland calls that level enough for domestic hygiene and effective at cutting scalding injuries.

Swapping, Adding or Moving a Bathroom Fixture
The split runs like this: a like-for-like fixture swap is minor work, while adding a fixture or shifting an old one is notifiable work.
Minor work
Swapping an existing fitting for another in the same spot counts as minor work. A licensed plumber does it, council permission isn't part of it, and no Form 4 follows.
Notifiable work
Adding a fixture, moving one, or renovating a bathroom where the building already stands counts as notifiable work. Council approval isn't required for any of it.
Notifiable work closes with paperwork. Your plumber lodges the Form 4 with the QBCC inside 10 business days after completion and gives you a copy for your files.
Keep that copy with your house papers. If you sell the home or an inspector comes knocking, the Form 4 is the record that the work was signed off properly.
Access shapes the job in this suburb more than most. A basin in a two-storey townhouse row off Roghan Road sits against a shared wall, so a split flexi hose under it can run unseen down into the unit below before anyone notices a stain. That's why we check the connections around every fixture we touch, not just the one that called us out.

We check the fixture and its connections
We come to the bathroom, inspect the fixture, and check the supply and waste lines before tracing the fault to its source. For townhouse jobs we check the shared-wall side too, because water there rarely stays in one unit.

Bathroom Plumbing Questions
Call (07) 3523 7121What does a bathroom plumber actually do?
A bathroom plumber looks after three things: the hot and cold supply to each fixture, the tapware and mixers, and the waste pipes. Every fitting in the wet area falls under that umbrella.
Can I plumb my own bathroom in Queensland?
No, regulated bathroom work is reserved for licensed plumbers. The jobs a householder may legally do run to swapping a shower head and changing a washer or the jumper valve inside a tap. Everything past that short list needs a licence.
Do bathroom changes in Taigum need a council permit?
No, a council permit isn't needed for notifiable work. Permits only come in for special cases, like building over a combined drain. Instead your plumber lodges a Form 4 to the QBCC within 10 business days of the job ending.
What certification should taps and showers carry?
Both. WaterMark certifies the fitting as safe and fit for its purpose under the national plumbing code, and WELS registration covers water efficiency, with the stars and consumption printed on the label.
Who maintains the shower tray in a Taigum unit?
The owner or occupier of the lot looks after the shower tray, even when it sits beyond the lot's own boundaries. That rule comes from Queensland's community titles scheme laws, so it covers most townhouse complexes here.
How do I check a bathroom plumber is licensed?
Look the plumber up in the QBCC's online register search. It shows a current licence for the plumber and any Form 4 recorded against your property after notifiable work.
