Kitchen Sink Installation in Taigum
Most of the work in kitchen sink installation in Taigum happens under the bench, not on top of it. Our Taigum plumbers connect the bowl, the mixer and the waste so the whole unit holds water from day one, and every job is done by a licensed plumber.

Replacing a kitchen sink looks simple from above. Underneath sit supply lines, a trap, a waste and a seal around the cut-out, and each one has to be right.

What a Kitchen Sink Replacement Includes
The plumber connects both supply lines through their isolation valves, then the mixer, the basket waste, the trap and the waste pipe, finishing with a leak test across every joint.
Each part has its own job:
Isolation valves
shut the water at the sink alone, so water stays on elsewhere in the house.
The basket waste
seals the drain hole in the bowl and carries water into the waste pipe.
The trap
holds water that blocks sewer gas coming back up the waste.
The supply connections
run hot and cold water from the house lines to the mixer.
The leak test
fills and drains the bowl while the plumber checks each joint.
Where a dishwasher drains through the sink waste, the hose joins at a spigot on the waste. A replacement waste needs that spigot, or the machine has nowhere to discharge.
Tapware, wastes and connectors fitted in Australia generally must carry the WaterMark trademark and appear in the certified-products database. We use certified gear, because anything else can void the compliance path for the job.

What a Home Owner May Do Under the Sink
Queensland law puts the plumbing connections in a licensed plumber's hands, and the category of work depends on the job.
A new sink, or an existing one shifted to a different position, is notifiable work. The plumber files a Form 4 with the QBCC within 10 business days of finishing and hands you a copy. No council permit is needed.
Replacing a sink where it already sits is minor work. A QBCC licensee still has to do it, but there is no permit and nothing to lodge.
The QBCC's owner summary lists fixing or replacing sinks and similar fixtures as regulated work. Its unregulated list is short and covers only small items, such as renewing a washer or a jumper valve, and sinks sit outside it.
Renters have one extra step. A tenant first needs written approval from the owner or manager on a Form 23 before a fixture goes in, and that approval cannot be withheld without good reason. If you rent in Taigum, sort the paperwork before the old bowl comes out.

How the Sink Style Changes the Job
A top-mount bowl drops in from above, its lip resting on the benchtop over the cut-out, while an undermount is fixed from below and needs an exact, sealed cut-out edge.
The two styles suit different benches:
Top-mount
hides a rough cut under the lip, suits laminate benchtops and is the simpler fit.
Undermount
leaves the cut-out edge showing, so the edge needs to be exact and sealed with silicone.
Undermount support
comes from clips or brackets carrying the bowl's weight from below, which adds time to the install.
If you are switching styles rather than swapping like for like, say so when you book. The benchtop work differs enough that it changes the quote.

Like for Like or a New Position
The price of a sink job turns on five things. Whether the bowl stays in the same position comes first, then whether fresh water or waste points are needed. The room under the bench, the benchtop itself and the mixer and fittings you choose round it out.
A straight swap in the same position is the quickest job. Moving the sink means running fresh supply and waste lines, and that is where the hours go. Once we have inspected the job, you get the full price as a written quote before any work starts.

Trap, Waste and Seal Problems
Five leak points turn up under and around a kitchen sink. The trap or a waste joint is the most common, followed by the seal around the basket waste, the base of the mixer, a supply join, and the seal between the bowl and the benchtop.
Some leaks announce themselves. Others need reading:
- A cupboard base that feels soft or damp points to water escaping for a while.
- A musty smell from under the bench often means a slow drip has been running unseen.
- A water mark on the cupboard base or the floor below marks where the drip lands.
A slow leak under a sink can waste thousands of litres over a season, so a soft cupboard base is worth a call the week you find it. If the bowl drains slowly rather than drips, that is a blockage question, and our blocked drains page covers it.

What Taigum Kitchens Look Like
Most kitchens here belong to houses and townhouses built from the 1970s through the 2000s, so the fittings under the bench span every era of Australian plumbing. Area-level figures record 425 dwellings approved across the five years to the last census snapshot, and the townhouse share of those repeats one specification across many units.
That repetition matters for sink work. When a complex near the creek corridor was fitted out, every kitchen got the same waste, trap and hoses, so they age together. One sink replacement in a block often predicts the next.
The kitchen is also where flexible hoses live. Our flexi hose replacement page covers those braided lines, and dishwasher installation handles the machine side. For the full picture of bench-side work, see kitchen and laundry plumbing, and tap replacement covers the mixer itself.

Kitchen Sink Questions
Call (07) 3523 7121How is a kitchen sink supposed to be installed?
A licensed plumber shuts the water off, takes out the old bowl and mixer, then connects the tap, the waste fitting, the trap and both supply lines. Every new joint gets a leak test before the cupboard closes. You receive a copy of any paperwork the job needs.
Can I install a kitchen sink myself at my Taigum home?
No, the plumbing side is licensed work in Queensland. Only the QBCC's small unregulated list, covering jobs like a washer or jumper valve swap, is open to a home owner. Everything below the bench belongs to a licensed plumber.
What is a Form 4 for a new kitchen sink?
A Form 4 is the notice your plumber files with the QBCC within 10 business days of completing notifiable work, which covers installing or relocating a sink. You receive a copy for your files. A straight swap where the bowl already sits needs none.
How do I check my plumber is licensed?
The QBCC keeps online registers that show whether a plumber holds a current licence. The same registers also reveal whether a Form 4 has been lodged for your address. Both checks are free and take minutes, so run them before booking anyone.
Can a kitchen sink in Taigum be moved to a new spot?
Yes, moving a sink in an existing building is notifiable work, so a licensed plumber runs fresh supply and waste lines and lodges a Form 4 with the QBCC. The lodgement falls within 10 business days of finishing. The standard case needs no council permit.
